#41 • JL Smith 3 Gallon Pottery Churn - Hard to Find
Part of Clayton Winter Pottery Auction (timed auction by K and B Auction)
High bid $52.00
Status: Sold
It is hard to find JL Smith (born 1872) items. This is a 3 gallon pottery churn with wood lid and dasher. There are lug handles on opposite sides. It is stamped 'J. L. Smith' under the rim by one of the handles and has a hand inscribed 3 that is written backwards. It has a nice style being curved in near the base and again under the rim, along with 2 lines ringing the churn between the handles. One handle has a large chip and there is a gouge taken out of the side along with an area of lost glaze. Due to the way it was turned, it tilts slightly. Very nice antique churn by a hard to find maker. Measures 14.25"H not including the dasher. KS
