#45 • Early Redware Pottery 4 Gallon Butter Churn W/Lid

Part of Clayton Winter Pottery Auction (timed auction by K and B Auction)

High bid $21.00

Status: Sold

Nicely shaped antique 4 gallon red pottery with a brown glaze that is matte on one side and with more of a shine on the other. It widens from the base up and then tapers again to the 1" high straight sided rim. There is a pottery lid with center handle and hole for a dasher but no dasher is included. There was originally a handle on one side and a lug handle on the other but the handle is missing. It is hand incised with a small "4" just above a decorative incised line around the churn near the top rim. There are two large chips on the edge of the lid and some wear from use. It stands 17"H. KS
