It is one of the oldest, continuously operating stoneware companies in the United States. Over the next two hundred years, the pottery changed hands (and names) several times. In 1970, John Robertson, a ceramics engineer, purchased the company and saved it from closing. He renamed the company Louisville Stoneware. This crock was produced between the beginning of the 20th Century and 1938, when the company was owned by James Bauer. He operated the pottery under the name Bauer Pottery, Cherokee Pottery, and Louisville Pottery. 13½" tall with a 8 5/8" outside diameter of the top rim. About 12½" long from handle to handle. Some small chips on the inside of the lid holding rim. Exterior is chip free except for a small piece on the bottom rim. jrb.
