Antique & vintage hand bucking/ woodworking tools- wooden framed bucksaw, square based auger with wooden handle and metal hardware, "Wm. Beatty Cast Steel #3" ( no "& Son" 1806-1839) marked large pig cleaver with wooden handle (cracked) and splitting froe with wooden handle with age gapping. William Beatty, son of an Irish immigrant, was reported to be making axes and edge tools in Waterville, Pennsylvania, in 1806. His brothers, John and Robert, were also tool makers. William established the business named “William M. Beatty & Son” (or stylized “Wm Beatty & Son”) in 1839 with his son John C. Beatty. The name soon became plural, “Sons,” within a year when another son, William P. Beatty, joined the firm. However, the company always marked its tools with “Son” despite its formal name. William Beatty died in 1843. BP
