1881 Winchester Model 1876 Second Model Lever Action Rifle, in their Sporting Rifle style, introduced as the “Centennial Rifle”-.45-60 Caliber (caliber was added as in option in 1879). Featuring round barrel, wooden walnut stock ("CB" carved into stock) and checkered foregrip, adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight, brass buttplate and dust cover. Marked on top of barrel "Winchester Repeating Arms New Haven CT. / Kings improvement patented March 22, 1855. October 16, 1860", ".45-60" behind sight and "Model 1876" on back strap. Serial number under lever action indicates production in 1881. Interesting note: This model was Theodore Roosevelt's first hunting rifle and around 20 of these rifles were used at Custer's Last Stand. All guns need to be checked for function by a gunsmith before use. Though we believe to be authentic, it has yet to be third party authenticated. BP
