Christoph Funk Hammered Double Barrel, side-by-side, 16 gauge, cap and ball black powder shotgun. German, made in Suhl. Likely produced between 1840-1880's. Expertly engraved and likely inlaid with silver, with checkered walnut stock and custom walnut pistol grip/ trigger guard. Octagonal to round, Damascus steel barrels with engraved caplock, hammer and lock, checkering on frontgrip and handle area of stock. Marked "C.M. Funck / n Suhl" on top of barrels, "in Stettin" on left side and "A. Civert?" on right side. In good condition for age- both mechanisms works and wood and metal finish is in good to very good conditions. Trigger guard has a chip to wood. Funk's hunting guns are praised everywhere, and their excellence is mentioned again and again for their first-class work, custom model development, and, in many cases, superb engraving. Funk was popular with the professional hunters and foresters and many of the guns have been subject to excessive wear. Guns without major wear, however, are still “state of the art” in both design and craftsmanship and deserve great attention and recognition. Funk's guns are continually referred to as "the Mercedes of the rifle world"! All guns need to be checked for function by a gunsmith before use. Though we believe to be authentic, it has yet to be third party authenticated. BP
