#17 • 1950's Line Mar Friction Jaguar w/ Original Box
Part of White Auction - Toys Vintage & Contemporary (timed auction by K and B Auction)
High bid $143.00
Status: Sold
This is a very hard to find tin litho toy by Line Mar (or Linemar - Best By Far) Toys of Japan from the 1950's. It is a "Friction Jaguar with Sparks and Driver" that is still with the original box. Nice graphics on the lid of the box of the car driving down a country road with another car behind it and scenery in the background. The original price of 39 cents is stamped on the side of the box. Both corners of one end of the lid are separated but there is, otherwise, only very light wear to the box. The car itself is red with blue and yellow pinstriping on the seat. The driver is a woman in matching red, blue and yellow. Front license plate has the tag number with "NY The Empire State" written beneath. Rear plate has the number only. The friction works but it does not spark any longer. It looks like sparks would originally have come from the center of the spare tire on the back of the car. The bottom has schematics of what would be visible under the car. It looks like something hot pressed against the top of the spare tire and the metal windshield frame is slightly bent inward on the passenger side. Inside the box is a Christmas present tag with the date 1955 had written on the back. Box measures 2.25"H x 6"H x 2.5"D. KS
