Alfred Moritz was a violin manufacturer and dealer working in Dresden in the late nineteenth century. His firm was active from around 1880 to 1900, producing instruments largely for the export trade. Moritz violins were often supplied through retailers and agents, sometimes bearing labels naming the company for whom they had been made. The firm’s instruments were particularly well represented in Britain, where some were sold under the name “Excelsior”. BP
