Original U.S. Civil War M-1862 Army NCO's Sword by Ames Mfg. Co. This is an excellent example of a U.S. Civil War issue Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officer's sword by Ames Manufacturing Co. of Chicopee, Massachusetts. They were by far the largest supplier of edged weapons to the Union forces during the war. The sword measures 39" overall, and has an all-brass hilt, with a "double scallop" cross guard, and a "D" hand guard enclosing the knurled hand grip. The 32 inch straight blade's ricasso is marked on one side with the Ames Mfg. Co. Scroll company marking: Made by AMES MFG Co CHICOPEE. MASS. One the other side it is marked :- U.S. A.D.K. 1862 "A.D.K." is the inspector mark of Andrew D King, who worked at Ames from 1840-1865, mostly inspecting NCO and Musicians swords. In good condition- blade steel is in good condition and brass hilt has some patina but no major corrosion or pitting! Not Authenticated in anyway, but appear correct. BP
