This is a wonderful piece of history in amazing condition. This device measures the density or specific gravity of liquids. Used to measure the alcohol content (proof) of a liquid. Be the envy of any brew master. Comes in a beautiful hand dovetailed box, bone inlaid border and plaque with "SIKES HYDROMETER W.REEVES & Co 26 MINORIES, LONDON". The case interior is lined with a dark purple fabric. Set is complete with all 9 weights. The brass float has no dents, which is a rarity. The mercury thermometer is mounted on bone and has measurements from 30 - 100 degrees F. the thermometer(6 7/8" long) has guards around the bulb reservoir, and a purple tassel at the other end . Box is 2 1/8" tall x 8 15/16" long x 3 1/4" deep and has a hinged lid. Some very minor wear to the box finish. jrb.
